Thank your for visiting my site. This is the obligatory "about me" page. Multimedia designer bio pages are normally written in the third person and contain more minutae than relevant content, and mine would be no different (do you REALLY want to know what my favorite type of sushi* is?). So instead, let me take this opportunity to explain my design motivation and, yes, talk a LITTLE bit about how I got here.
My approach to all design projects, from a simple magazine ad to an enterprise-level system integration, is mainly focused upon the end user. Intense graphics and a cutting-edge user interface are counterproductive if the correct message is not successfully relayed. Transparency and simplicity are the two most important factors in creating a positive user experience, and I am a proponent of comprehensive user testing at all project milestones. The most critical (and sometimes only) question I ask each test subject is "What do you think this site (or ad, or jingle, etc) is trying to communicate?"
But there are pragmatic concerns, as well. Although I began my career in multimedia design as an art director for a major ad agency, I've spent most of my professional life in the frenetic world of consulting for Fortune 500 companies and government agencies, where good user interface and user experience design is a budgetary afterthought. And although I still champion the cause of the end user, I am well-versed in careful project and budget planning, back end integration, and client communication. I have the vocabulary to speak to developers and CEOs alike, and I am accustomed to being the only non-technical resource on an engagement, serving as both UI lead and business analyst. I have often headed design teams
within a much larger project group, but I am equally comfortable working solo for extended periods of time.
It's this flexibility and drive that has kept me busy and interested, but I feel that my main talents are the ability to understand my clients' business and the ability to effectively implement the best creative communications scheme to further their success.
